FROM CRAMPED & CLUTTERED TO SPACIOUS & MODERN!

When Dei and Kate purchased their Santa Barbara home in 2019, it retained all the original features from the early 60s, including yellow and blue Formica counters and tiles. While they also desired to update the kitchen, they prioritized modernizing the bathrooms first. ELITE designer, Andrea Fonseca, assisted Dei and Kate in refining their vision and implemented many space-saving solutions.

The teen/guest bathroom now boasts a walk-in shower adorned with timeless Terrazzo tile that seamlessly transitions from floor to walls, complemented by sparkling white stacked subway tile. Sleek, flat-panel, soft-touch Italian laminate walnut cabinetry brings the mid-century modern style to life with its warm appeal.

In the master bath, Andrea created additional space by partially recessing the cabinet and counter and incorporating sliding doors to prevent the cabinet door from swinging into the toilet as it previously did. The bathroom window was repositioned over the mirror, which now spans the entire wall, enhancing the sense of openness and providing necessary privacy to the adjacent patio.

Impressed by the smooth bathroom remodel, Dei and Kate decided to proceed with updating the kitchen. The garage door was repositioned, allowing for the installation of a peninsula that houses the microwave, and all other appliances were relocated to maximize cabinet and counter space. A corner shelving system and Lazy Susan effectively utilized the blind corner cabinet spaces.

For design continuity, the vertical-grained walnut cabinets were extended to the kitchen. Minimalist white quartz counters were added to provide a clean, modern aesthetic, while white grout accentuates the deep green stacked subway tiles, tying the backsplash into the countertops. And for a more spacious feel, floating shelves were installed in the sink area.
